Peace and Quiet

Yesterday was a day I used to get a lot done around the house. First day of the New Year, it seemed a good idea to start off on a clean foot.

It was perishingly hot so I put the air con away and used a task/reward system to tick things off my list.

Come lunchtime, I felt the need to get out in the fresh air, even if it was unpleasantly humid.

So I went and got a chicken roll and went down to the Lake. I swear it was 5 degrees cooler down there.

And it was quiet. There were other people about, families playing by the water, but they were far enough away to be on the limit of my hearing.

I sat under a gum, brushed away some ants and just enjoyed the noise of nature. The warm wind in the leaves, the cicadas singing away. I don't meditate or often stop what I'm doing to contemplate life, so this was a nice moment to just chillax and soak up some nature. It really is a great way to recharge.

I want to go down there more, it's not very far from my house and just beautiful year-round.

I even made an avian friend.

What do you do to relax?

Lazy day

I'm pretty sure we had hail this morning. I woke up to loud bangs, but it didn't compute at that hour of the morning so I rolled over and slept again. And slept. First time I've slept in that much in ages, and it was GLORIOUS.

I have a no-plan day today. Nothing pressing to do, nowhere to be. My fiancee is out playing paintball in the mud and the boarder is off at a course. I had formulated some vague plans of going to the shops to print out save-the-date cards but you know what? It's raining, and I don't want to get out of my pajamas.

Despite this, I've still been pottering about doing some housework. It's like some sick compulsion. In my mind, I rationalize: "If I put a load of washing on, and make sure the kitchen is clean, then I can relax for an hour or two. Then later I can make a start on the floors... ".

NO. I must resist! Plenty of time for housework tomorrow. Today, I'm going to enjoy my no-plan day.

Do you have planned lazy days? Do you still find yourself doing housework and errands anyawy?

Lazy Day

Today has been so divine and relaxing. I've dubbed it our "lazy day". It rained, the sky was grey.

First, C arrived home early this morning from Sydney. We slept in, then I went to the shops and bought apples. I baked a tea cake, which I have never done in my life before, purely because C was banging on about how much he loves them last week. I also did two loads of washing.

Apart from that, we pretty much spent the entirety of the day on the couch. We watched some tv shows together, then a movie with popcorn. Then I cooked dinner and we ate at the breakfast bar together, chatting.

It wasn't until after this, and we were back relaxing on the couch, that I realised that I hadn't even asked C if he wanted to do something today, go somewhere. I said this to him, and he said he didn't want to go anywhere anyway.

If it wasn't Saturday, I'd say it was the perfect lazy Saturday.
